The Prize for Humanity is a people-oriented award that celebrates human ingenuity in developing new solutions to address the plight of climate change. With an annual award of 1 million euros, the Prize funding has been used to support people facing the worst impacts of climate change and help scale climate solutions.​
​
This is not a prize that solely rewards technical innovation but also rewards actions by individuals, organizations, and networks for the overall benefit of nature and humanity. The Prize aims to strengthen communities that are facing the effects of climate change by helping them adapt and build resilience at a local level.​

The Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity jury and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation seeks nominations that demonstrate the following:​
